Detailed information

Product detailed description

These beads are made from the fruits (nuts) of the Corypha umbraculifera palm, known as the talipot palm.

Why that name? They are called 'root' probably because of their appearance and texture, which after processing resembles ivory or smooth root.

Symbolism: The name 'Bodhi' refers to the tree of enlightenment (sacred fig tree), under which Buddha meditated. Although these beads come from a palm and not that tree, they are attributed strong spiritual significance in Buddhist tradition.

Key features
Appearance: The raw bead has a brown, wrinkled skin. After peeling and polishing, a beautiful milky white to creamy color appears with subtle marbling.

Aging (Patina): This is the most interesting aspect. Over time, as they come into contact with skin and sweat, the beads change color. They gradually yellow, brown, and gain a deep shine (patina). The older and more used they are, the more valuable they become.

Texture: They are very smooth, firm, and pleasantly cool to the touch, which is ideal for meditation or stress relief.

Bodhi Root: Beads from the 'Bodhi Root'
Bodhi Root (translated as 'Bodhi root') is among the most sought-after materials for making meditation malas and bracelets. Despite its name, it is not a tree root, but the inner kernel of the talipot palm seeds (Corypha umbraculifera).

Main Characteristics
Material: 100% natural plant seed (nut).

Appearance: When polished, the beads have an elegant, milky white to creamy color with subtle, almost imperceptible marbling.

Texture: They are very dense, solid, and feel organic and warm to the touch. The surface is smoothly polished, reminiscent of ivory (plant-based ivory).

Aging Process (Patina): This is their most valued feature. The longer the beads are worn and used, the more they oxidize and absorb oils from the skin. Over time, they change color from white to golden, honey, and eventually deep brown. This process symbolizes spiritual growth and the passage of time.

Why choose Bodhi Root?
Spiritual symbolism: The name "Bodhi" refers to the state of enlightenment. They are traditionally associated with inner peace, wisdom, and protection against negative energy.

Sustainability: It is a purely natural, renewable material. The talipot palm blooms only once in its lifetime and then produces thousands of these seeds.

Uniqueness: Each bead is unique. No two pieces have identical vein patterns.

Versatility: Thanks to its neutral color, it pairs beautifully with minerals (e.g., turquoise, lava, tiger's eye) or woods (sandalwood).

Technical information for customers
Care: Like any organic material, Bodhi Root does not like prolonged soaking in water (bathing, swimming pool). It may become brittle or crack.

Cleaning: Simply wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Frequent contact with the palms is beneficial and accelerates the formation of patina.
